Shadowbrook: A Novel of Love, War, and the Birth of America

By Beverly Swerling

Ebook

Now I remember why I don't read fiction. I can never figure out where the heck I am in the so-called story. This one I read because I was hoping for some good French and Indian War stuff because the book was set in this time. And although it did bring up some good historical stuff from the period like true Indian Cheifs and such, it just wasn't enough.

At the climactic ending on the Plains of Abraham I really felt the "story" overpowered the actual events. The characters were not memorable and I found myself just not caring if the succeeded or failed.

Swerlings City of God sefies about Manahattan (4000 pages of yikes im sure) is really why I read this. Reallyjust to see what she was about.

No John Jakes thats for sure.

I may skip the series and just get right into Wallaces Gotham which  I'm sure would be a mucb better read for me.
